The Challenge
A product with capability, held back by its name.
“Pat Trac” was descriptive, but it was also restrictive.
It was confusing
It felt technical.
It lacked any emotional connection.
Most importantly, it positioned the platform as a tracking tool, not a care-enabling system.
However as the product expanded across midwives, clinics, and obstetric practices, the name could not support its ambition.
The challenge was to create a name that could scale with the platform, resonate with practitioners, and reflect the role it played in maternity care.
The Insight
Maternity care is built on trust, anticipation, and expectation.
The product was not just tracking patients.
It was supporting one of the most important journeys in a person’s life.
For midwives, it enabled better care.
For patients, it shaped their experience.
The opportunity was to move away from functional language and toward a name that captured both clinical purpose and human meaning.
A name that could live in both worlds.
The Strategy
Create a name that bridges clinical utility and human experience.
We developed a naming strategy grounded in three principles:
Clarity
Emotional relevance
Scalability
The name needed to:
- move beyond technical description
- resonate with midwives and healthcare providers
- reflect the anticipation inherent in maternity care
- support future product and service expansion
The result was Expect.
A single word that operates on multiple levels.
For practitioners, it reflects reliability and confidence in the system.
For patients, it connects to the journey of pregnancy and what lies ahead.
The Creative System
A brand built around simplicity, confidence, and meaning.
The identity system was designed to elevate the name and reinforce its dual role, clinical and human.
Graphic elements supported this by:
- creating a sense of progression and journey
- balancing clinical clarity with warmth and approachability
- ensuring usability across digital interfaces and communications
- supporting adoption across individual and enterprise users
Messaging moved away from technical description and toward outcome-led communication.
Less about features.
More about what the platform enables.
The result is a brand that transforms a functional tool into a meaningful, scalable healthcare platform.
